Bill Splitter is developed by Ivaylo Zhelyazkov. This policy describes what data the app accesses, how it is used, and your choices.

Data that stays on your device

All core app data is stored locally on your device and is never uploaded to any server. This includes:

• Bill history (item names, prices, people, assignments)
• Saved people (names only)
• Receipt images you attach to bills
• App preferences (language, currency, theme, Revolut.me link)

The app does not have user accounts and does not require login. Uninstalling the app removes all local data.

Receipt scanning

When you choose to scan a receipt, the app sends the receipt photo to OpenAI's GPT-4o API through a secure proxy server for text extraction. This is the only network request the app makes.

• What is sent: A JPEG image of the receipt, downscaled for processing
• What is returned: Item names and prices extracted from the image
• When: Only when you explicitly tap "Scan from Camera" or "Scan from Gallery"
• Retention: The proxy server does not store, log, or retain the image or response. Refer to OpenAI's API data usage policy for how OpenAI handles API inputs.
• Limit: 10 scans per day

Contacts access

The app can optionally import names from your phone's contact list to quickly add people to a bill.

• Only the display name is read — phone numbers, emails, and other details are never accessed
• This happens only when you tap "From Contacts" and grant permission
• The selected name is stored locally on your device

Camera and photos

The app uses Android's built-in camera and photo picker to capture or select receipt images. The app itself does not request camera or media library permissions — it delegates to the system, which handles access control. Photos are used only for receipt scanning or attaching to a bill.

What the app does not do

• No analytics or telemetry
• No advertising
• No crash reporting
• No location tracking
• No device identifier collection
• No data sharing with third parties (except OpenAI for receipt scanning as described above)
• No background network requests

Children

This app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. The updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised date.
